Statement:

I define myself as a water alchemist.

Listening to the sea has always been my main source of inspiration. Following a sound flow that cannot be stoped or controlled intrigued me so much that I began to play with it, eventually bringing it with me on stage through Cariddi.

I can describe my art research and approach to sound with a sentence from Bruno Munari book’s “The sea as a craftsman”: “The sea is allergic to sharp edges”. Like the sea is allergic to sharp edges, I, through a radical improvisation practice shape water movements and electronic sounds to create a metamorphic environment in which the listeners can dive in to lose themself and catch a breath from the chaos of todays life and world. Each performance is different from the previous, like the sea every time we look at it, we dive in it or get in touch with it.

Bio:

Mac Tire is a musician, performer, and researcher.

His work focuses on sound design, live electronics and multidisciplinary performances, with a strong interest in using water and instruments of his own design.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance and a Master’s degree in Music and New Technologies, he enrolled in a PhD in Performing, Staging Arts, Music and Compositions at ABANA.

His artistic research combines the sound and motion of water; starting from an observation of sea waves, his interest in using water as a sound source and core for his projects was born. Sampling and reshaping this natural element, mixed with a curiosity towards radical improvisation, led to the creation of Cariddi, an experimental electroacoustic instrument designed to create and samples whirlpools. This instrument is used to bring the unpredictability of the tide and its sounds in an artificial space.
